2021 season tryouts & info

It is our standard to conduct one-on-one evaluations and group evaluations during this time.   We do this either via video evaluation or your participation in one or more of our outdoor training sessions currently being held in Blissfield, MI.

This is the best way for us to get to know each athlete individually and begin to build relationships with both athletes and families.

High street expands coaching staff With alum Emma Atkinson!

High Street Athletics is excited to welcome player alum and now  Coach Emma Atkinson back!  Emma will coach in our new Jackson location and brings the culture and foundation of High Street from the player perspective with her.

High Street Owner Kilee Goetz-Bailey shares, “I am very excited to welcome Emma to the coaching team.  As a player, Emma was the ultimate learner, worker and team player.  She understands adversity, due to suffering a knee injury during her collegiate career, which is a critical skill for coaching.  Having former players return to the program to coach adds a very unique piece to our dynamic.  We are very eager to learn from Emma and support her goals and growth as a person and coach.  Welcome back Emma!!!”

Former players that have returned to coach since the inaugural 2016 graduating class include Emma, Ebony McKenzie, Asia Parker, McKenna Jordan, Madi Mahaffey, Amanda Carty, Triniti Smith, and Avery Simpson.

A 2020 graduate of Albion College and now graduate student at Western Michigan University, Emma is eager to build the new Jackson location and  "very excited to coach for this club and help give back to the game that has given me so many opportunities!"

High Street continues summer programs for all athletes at every level during lessons in the sand, Tuesday night boys program, as well as practices on Mondays and Wednesdays and the Friday Date-Night FUNdamentals.

With multiple locations in both Michigan and Ohio, High Street Athletics continues to grow and provide opportunities for athletes at every level.   The free Sand Volleyball drop-in tournaments are a big draw for adult and high school age athletes as well, occurring every every other weekend.  Contact for further details and to connect with the athletes who are organizing the events.

High Street Welcomes Boys Program Coach!

High Street Athletics is excited to welcome Coach Alex Garavalia to the family!  Alex joins us a Lenawee Coach and brings with him a wealth of multisport coaching experience in addition to athletic background as a collegiate player.   The Indiana native and long-time baseball, volleyball, and basketball player is eager to get training with Lenawee County players.

”We are very excited to add such an ambitious, up-and-coming coach to our staff,”  says Lenawee County native and High Street Managing Partner Kilee Goetz.  “As a current men’s volleyball player, Alex will help us build the boys program here in Lenawee County and beyond.”

“I think it’s crazy that there is not a bigger boys presence in Michigan and I want to change that,” says Alex.  “Volleyball has brought a lot of diverse people into my life that I thought I would never meet before.”  The Siena Heights Senior, majoring in electrical engineering, looks forward to working with all athletes at every level during lessons in the sand, Tuesday night boys program, as well as practices on Mondays and Wednesdays and the Friday Date-Night FUNdamentals.

The Lenawee County location of High Street Athletics is growing quickly as it responds to the overwhelming need to bring quality volleyball training to the area, especially looking to build a significant presence in the boys volleyball realm.

With multiple locations in both Michigan and Ohio, High Street Athletics continues to grow and provide opportunities for athletes at every level.   The free Sand Volleyball tournaments are a big draw for adults and high school age athletes as well, occurring all summer long every other weekend.  Contact for further details.

High Street Athletics adds Betsy Martinez to the Leadership Team and links to Jackson County

We are very excited to announce the addition of Betsy Martinez to our team.

Our Owner, Kilee Goetz-Bailey and Betsy have a long history of friendship and competition, dating back to their childhood.  This long history and aligning visions with youth, faith, family and friendship is the foundation needed to create special experiences and greatness.

Kilee’s thoughts on the hire…

“I am thrilled to work with Betsy personally and professionally.  Growing up we spent a lot of time competing and being on opposite sides of the net while always having a great relationship off the court.  We are excited to combine forces as friends and colleagues, as well as combine Spring Arbor University and High Street Athletics to offer unique and quality opportunities for all involved.”

Martinez brings enthusiasm and experience to High Street Athletics from her playing days at Taylor University after serving three years as a coach at Lenawee Christian School. She was the 8th grade volleyball coach for one season before being elevated to direct the varsity program for two seasons.
The Adrian, Michigan native has also been active in Lenawee Christian Ministries as the Director of the Elite Summit Volleyball Camp, as well as the Elite Sports Performance Strength and Conditioning Coach.
Martinez boasts impressive credentials from her playing career. At Lenawee Christian, she was a multi-sport standout, earning 12 varsity letters. On the volleyball court, she was a three-time All-State selection and named the Lenawee County Player of the Year during her junior and senior seasons.
After high school, Martinez went on to play at Taylor where she was a four-time NAIA All-America selection with the Trojans. During her time in Upland, Indiana, she guided TU to four regular season conference championships and two conference tournament titles while the team racked up a 135-32 record. Martinez garnered Crossroads League Setter of the Year honors three times while accumulating 6,087 assists – second most all-time at Taylor. During her junior season, where the Trojans posted a 35-8 record, she dished out 1,736 helpers – sixth-most in a single season at TU = which ranked third in the nation.
Martinez received her Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education from Taylor in 2012. She and her husband, Colton, reside in Spring Arbor with their son.
“Betsy has gained extensive experience in leadership and management during her tenure at SAU.  We are really looking forward to learning and growing from Betsy sharing her knowledge with our staff very quickly”
SAU will be a centralized focus and location for the Pay-it-Forward FUNdamentals Youth program through our Power 5 Foundation.  This program offers FREE weekly practice and monthly tournament play to boys and girls in grades K-6 at all locations (Calhoun, Kalamazoo, Jackson, Lenawee, Wayne and Lucas (OH) Counties).  This program will also offer leadership and mentorship opportunities to the student-athletes at SAU while gaining work experience to aid in future employment opportunities.
“Betsy will bring tremendous opportunity, and love of the game, to our youth and the development of our youth staff.  Betsy is a former 1st grade teacher, current collegiate head coach, and is highly qualified to teach coaches how to develop the beginning athlete in our sport.” – Kilee Goetz-Bailey, Owner of High Street Athletics
